A special attraction is the Protestant church Bergkirchen from 1756. 1200 years ago, probably the first church was built there.
Bergkirchen history
The place Bergkirchen is probably over 1200 years old. Although the settlement was first mentioned in documents in the 11th century, but recent research suggests that already in 799 on the occasion of the September trip of Pope Leo III. In Bergkirchen a wooden church was consecrated.
Southwest of the church tower is located on the church grounds, the Wittekindsquelle, presumed place of a mediaeval Saxon spring sanctuary and legendary place of the source miracle, which attributes the tradition to the medieval Saxon Duke Widukind.
